Clinics & Services
Asthma & COPD Clinic
We offer appointments with our asthma specialist nurses for monitoring symptom control and medication together with support and advice on management according to individual needs. All asthma patients are advised to see the practice nurse for an annual review.
If your doctor or nurse has requested you have a blood test we run a clinic every morning. We offer the first appointments to those patients who are having fasting bloods. Fasting bloods mean you cannot eat or drink, except plenty of water, for 12 hours before your blood test. If you do, then this could produce an inaccurate result necessitating a retest. All blood samples are taken in the morning so they can be collected at 13:00. and taken to the laboratory at East Surrey Hospital - this is also the case for urine, stool and sputum samples.
Counselling & CBT
A counselling service is available at Brockwood Medical Practice, provided by DHC and funded by the NHS. Access is by referral from your doctor. The service provides for up to six sessions (each 50 minutes) of individual counselling for adults, not couple, child or family work. Referrals may be made for a variety of issues, including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress at work, loss of confidence, bereavement, family break-up, trauma, adjustment to physical ill-health, pressures of caring. Please speak to your doctor or practice nurse if you wish to be referred.
Once the referral for counselling has been received, you will be sent an opt-in letter explaining the times it is available, and how the initial appointment will be set up. Appointments are available at specific times, within normal surgery hours, Monday to Friday, at North Holmwood and Brockham Surgeries.
There will be some conditions for which CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) may be the recommended treatment, for example anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder or moderate to severe depression. In these cases you may be referred directly to a specialist CBT service provider, self-help resources may be suggested, or a CBT approach may be incorporated within counselling.
There are four qualified counsellors working at Brockwood: Fiona Spencer (Counselling Service Coordinator), Vicky Cruz, Monika Mizzi and Kim Oakley. There may in addition be therapists in training attached to the service.

Extended Hours/Access Clinics
Now it is even easier for people to make an appointment with a GP, thanks to a new national ‘extended access’ initiative, which means hundreds of extra appointments every week for people living in the local area. As well as being able to visit your practice, now you can also book into evening and weekend consultations at new hub clinics, where extra appointments are available at a number of locations locally.
The extra appointments are being provided by local GP federations, which are made up of local GP practices, so you will be seen by a local GP.
Thanks to GP practices working together in a new and different way, this new service means it will be even easier to get the care and advice you need, at a time that’s convenient to you. As these appointments are provided by local GPs, with your consent, the GP will even be able to access your medical record, giving them access to all the information they need to provide the best possible care, even if your appointment is at a different location.
By having more appointments available, it will be even easier for people to get advice from a GP, when they need it. The initiative will also ensure more people are seen and treated in the community, closer to home.
You can book into this new service by contacting your practice in the usual way.
